Shell Server Upgrade – Coming Sunday January 15th
I’m planning to bring the main OpenBSD shell server up to date this Sunday morning at around 10 or 11am ET. This will bring us from OpenBSD 4.7 to 5.0 and hopefully will resolve some of the sporadic crashes we’ve seen on this server. The upgrade is expected to take roughly an hour, with an additional reboot later in the day after all additional packages are updated. SSH, FTP, and SFTP services will be intermittently affected, and if you have a long-running program running on your account, be sure to either restart it manually or via at/cron.
EDIT: 7:45am ET – Looks like I’ll be starting this a little early, more like 8am.
EDIT-2: 9:30am ET – The core system portion of the upgrade is done and the shell server is accepting logins again. I’m in the process of upgrading the installed software (ports packages, rubygems) now.
EDIT-3: 11:50am ET – Most additional software has been updated and the GeekISP management tools appear to be mostly working. If you spot any issues, please email support!
